Brandy L. Sutton
Brandy Sutton is an attorney and the managing partner of the law firm Pendleton & Sutton, where she practices primarily in the areas of:
- Creditors' Rights
- Commercial and Retail Collections
- Litigation
- Landlord-Tenant Law
- Mechanics' Liens
- Homeowners' Association Representation
With more than 20 years of experience in the collections industry, Brandy represents commercial and retail creditors in all facets of debt collection. Prior to becoming a collections lawyer in 1998, she worked as a creditors' rights legal assistant, as well as a collector on first and third party collections. She has received HIPAA attorney certification from ACA International. Her clients include credit card issuers, collection agencies, banks and other lenders, small business owners, doctors, dentists, medical clinics, hospitals, and government agencies.
Brandy also concentrates a portion of her practice on landlord-tenant law. As a residential and commercial landlord, she has firsthand knowledge of the types of issues that can arise, often assisting clients with evictions and rental income recoveries. She also represents homeowners' associations in various disputes.
Brandy is an active member of the leading creditors' rights industry organizations, including the Kansas Credit Attorneys Association (and former president), National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA), ACA International, as well as the Commercial Law League of America (CLLA).
Pendleton & Sutton has been certified as a women-owned business by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Brandy is a member of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) - Lawrence Express Network, Kansas Women Attorneys Association, and the Douglas County Women Attorneys Association.
She remains active in the Kansas community as a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and the Oread Neighborhood Association. Brandy currently serves on the board of directors for the Apartment Association of Lawrence. She also volunteers for the Kansas Elder Law Hotline, providing pro bono legal advice on elder care to callers. In addition to her community activities, Brandy is a frequent speaker on landlord-tenant topics, focusing on collections, landlord's rights, and rental licensing.
Brandy is admitted to practice law in all state courts in Kansas and Missouri, as well as the United States District Courts of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri. She is a member of the Kansas, Missouri and Douglas County Bar Associations. Brandy received her B.A. from the University of Kansas where she majored in political science with an emphasis in state policy, and her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. She joined Pendleton & Sutton in 1995.
